A Tale of Two Women

what a waste of time. George, why do you do the valiant cause of pointing out the wrongs of the OCA this wrong by posting on the first lady and Romney’s wife. It is exactly these type of posts that will turn off a large portion of the OCA electorate, and turn off from your site for good. You are providing a good service, not perfect, but needed for our OCA. But I honestly don’t understand how this has to do with anything related to our faith.

sigh!!!!! your losing our cause with this one.

More Narrative Fail: The OCL Weighs In

“My friends, I could easily title this letter “A Sorrowful Epistle”, as even my recent Nativity message to you, despite the brightness of the Winter Pascha. But it is not my intention for this communication to be a sermon, but rather a clarification regarding the reporting of the recent session of the Holy Synod. As usual, some of the comments and conclusions on the internet have been thoughtful and considerate, others inaccurate and speculative, others amusing and naïve, others downright nasty and condemnatory.

“I have stated several times that it is unlikely that an author of fiction, even the likes of Stephen King on his best day, could pen a story – with plots, sub-plots, colorful and shady characters, schemes, scenarios and plot twists, all characteristic of our on-going crisis in the Orthodox Church in America – that could be deemed credible enough for publication. Our on-going saga is too incredible, yet it goes on and on without any indication of an end…….”

“Unless there are additional changes, or, should I say, corrections in accordance with the Statute of the Orthodox Church in America, and something more than lip-service to seeking the truth, and finally, genuine re-evaluation of who we are as an autocephalous church and that we are not two million members strong, or one million, or 400,000, I do not place much hope in the effectiveness of the scheduled All American Council this year.”

And Now for a Word from One of the “DC Nuns”

Taize or a church of the Diocese of the Midwest, Orthodox Church in America. If the latter, than it looks like Matthais has more work to do than silent prayers, communion clothes etc….

What is awful is that a bishop will suspend a deacon for having an opinion, but allows this priest to get away with redesigning the Orthodox Church.

Here We Go Again?

Let’s get our terminology straight, it does indeed count for something.

By the OCA’s own official record of pastoral transactions, the “Pastoral Changes” Metropolitan Jonah was not retired. The Episcopal Changes of the July 2012 Pastoral Changes reads,

“(PAFFHAUSEN), Metropolitan Jonah, at his request, was released from his duties as Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada by the Holy Synod of Bishops, effective July 7, 2012.”

Further, there is no mention of Metropolitan Jonah in the “retired” section of those pastoral changes.

Compare that with the “Pastoral Changes” as printed in the Winter 2009 edition of the “The Orthodox Church” where is states under “Episcopal Changes” ,

“[SWAIKO], Metropolitan Herman was granted retirement by the Holy Synod of Bishops/ September 4, 2008.”

Further in those same “Pastoral Changes” under the “Retired” category it states,

“[SWAIKO], Metropolitan Herman is granted retirement by the Holy Synod of Bishops/ September 4, 2008.”

OCA Snubbed at Ft Ross Celebration?

man, you people just miss the point. Maybe because you are all so polarized. As Bp Tikhon has said, “no one wants to see the OCA snubbed”. No one is gloating over this tragedy. But the truth is that while indeed this Fort Ross event is on Abp Benjamin’s calendar, and while he and other OCA clergy very well may have sat on preparatory meetings, the fact is that the MP has made no mention of that. And why? The MP doesn’t -not- do things on accident. Anyone who knows anything about world Orthodoxy, the MP and public relations knows that the MP has a well oiled PR machine (save the watch incident – Ha). And fact of the matter is that the MP is the only Church that recongnizes our autocephaly (and don’t go talking about Poland and Czech / Slovak church – the later does what the MP says, and the former recognizes us when they are sitting fence side of MP, and doesn’t recognize us when they are sitting fence side of EP).

The MP took pains to go to bat for us in Chambesy and other such venues, and they publicized such support. The Fort Ross event would be the perfect event for the MP to continue to support the OCA on the world stage. A statement like, “at the invitation of the Orthodox Church in America and her Locum Tenens…….” would have been an excellent show of support. That the press release read “at the invitation of ROCOR and Hilarion Kapral” is huge.

People, please remember that it matters most what is publicized and not so much what the actual plans are.

And please remember that when Metropoitan Hilarion Alfeyev was last serving in the United States he served second to the OCA, even in the MP Cathedral. He is not serving second to the OCA this time. Either this is our territory or it is not. Two years ago it appeared to be our territory

I don’t think we will see this sort of picture in Fort Ross with Archbishop Nathaniel being honored.
