50 Years On, What Have We Learned?

You’re out of fashion. Guys like Joe Lieberman have long since been hounded out of the Democrat party.

For a time, Obama managed to do a passable imitation of Kennedy, but he turned out to be only Vladimir Lenin dressed in one of JFK’s old suits.

Kennedy held a certain appeal to post-war Americans because we were trying to put the war behind us and start living again. (Remember, most of the men who fought the war were in the prime of their lives at that point.) JFK was handsome, charming and had a good sense of humor—a politician from central casting. Unfortunately, as events proved, he was all too human. The Democrat party Platform of 1960 is an interesting read for current liberals. In many respects, the Dems used to be what are now called “dangerous right-wing radicals.” This was before 40 years of marxist indoctrination destroyed us.

Camelot was always a fatuous myth, but I do miss the old civic optimism that was the hallmark of the Kennedy years. Even conservatives liked the man personally. Issues existed then on which reasonable men could disagree. People respected diversity of opinion and were comfortable expressing themselves. Conservatives as well as Liberals taught in high school and in the academy.

It was a different age, a different age.

Stop the Presses! Pope Says that there’s a Gay Lobby in the Vatican!

Maybe the OCA is, itself, a gay cabal.

Courage in Leadership

Is there any way in the world that we can get through a single thread on this blog–even one–without mentioning Father Kondratick?

Some of us couldn’t smell excrement if we were up to our necks in it.

Unfortunately.

It is obvious to most of us–not all of us, alas–that the issue of contraception is a mere pretext of the Obama administration for destroying the Catholic church. The church is usually one of the first institutions that Marxists destroy—they hate the competition. Magicians work in a similar fashion, diverting our attentions to their left hand while pocketing the coin with their right.

Some of us are easier to divert than others. Look! A bunny!

Thar He Blows! The Great White Defendant!

I can’t see how I can possibly express my opinion of your so-called “reasoning” skills politely, so I won’t.

With all due respect, sir, it’s usually always brightest just before it turns pitch black.

You can argue economic policy all you want; what you can’t do is change mathematics. Those figures are from the non-partisan CBO; Heritage has merely put them into chart form. I know they’re ugly, but you voted for him. You own them. You were deceived.

Mr. Obama is a committed Marxist–I have no problem whatever saying this—and he and the his hard Left advisers have run the economy off the edge of the cliff. Already. It’s a done deal. You won’t see the results immediately because it will take several months for the effects of these policies to become clear to you. All the costs of so-called Obamacare, for example, were “backloaded”, or postponed, in order to deceive you. At the beginning of 2013, when the massive tax hikes they’ve put into place hit the public radar, you may realize that the waters are swirling about your ankles and that the ship is going down. Ultimately, even the dimmest among you will see. But it will be too late. It probably already is too late. A Republican in the White House will not be able to turn it around fast enough to avoid the pain.

The reason the Democrat leadership in the Senate has not come up with a budget, as they are bound to do by law, is that the only way this ridiculous debt can be discharged—the only real way–is by forcing gigantic tax hikes on the middle class. Why? Because, as the bank robber said when asked why he robbed the bank: ‘that’s where the money is.’ If they taxed all millionaires at 100%, it would be a drop in the bucket compared to what we owe.

Mr Bush was certainly a fool, but Mr. Obama is a knave. You can be quite sure of that.

A New Day Dawning?

Interesting point: what if everyone decided to insist their behavior was acceptable?.

Drunkards: I can’t help myself; don’t you realize that I’ve got a disease?
Addicts: I’m in thrall to my animal brain.
Liars: It’s not my fault; I was brought up wrong.
Adulterers: Pity me. I’m a sex addict.
Thieves: As a child I was deprived.

The Church is a healer; it’s in the business of curing ills, not enabling them. Sometimes the medicine doesn’t taste too good, but it eventually makes us whole.
