Rainbows, Unicorns, and the Arab Spring

It’s Sunny at the White House! But not in Egypt, if you are a Christian or a Franciscan nun. All over the country, Christian churches are being burned, Christians murdered, and nuns paraded in the streets as “prisoners of war.”

The “war”: this can only mean a war of Islam vs. Christianity, right? What other “war” could they be prisoners of? (Their words, not mine.) The Muslim Brotherhood and their thug adherents are conducting a war of genocide against Christians, trying to erase the Copts – one of the oldest Christian groups in the world – from the land.

Once upon a time in America, the American president would have stood before the world, over and over again, and provided a moral counterweight to this evil. The great figures of the 20th century became great by denouncing evil and condemning genocidal and religious persecution: Reagan, Churchill, Wojtyla.

But Obama is no Wojtyla. He has remained nearly silent on the Muslim Brotherhood’s bloody war on Egypt’s Christians.  The martyrs pile up; he plays golf.

The thugs rampaging through Egyptian churches, you see, are Obama’s thugs. He destabilized Egypt by giving the green light to Hosni Mubarak’s fall. After all, Mubarak was an American stooge, a puppet, a toy of imperial America and all that left-wing drool Obama has subscribed to since he was writing articles in college denouncing the deployment of Pershing missiles in Europe. Now his thugs rampage through holy places, destroying.

This is nothing new. Evil comes in many forms across the centuries, but they always are obsessed with destroying Christian churches. Whether the mob followed Lenin, Calles, or Robespierre, the results were always the same: desecration and murder. We are witnessing the 2013 version.

That an American president has remained almost silent only adds to the disgrace. Perhaps that first domino Obama sent tumbling keeps him quiet.

It’s quite entertaining to see pieces like this hit PJ Media considering Glenn (I had an abortion) Reynolds, Simon and their ilk were at the epicenter of the “Democracy! Whisky! Sexy!” neo-Jacobin cheerleading squad for the Bush Administration foreign policy circa 2003 on. The asylum has gotten a bigger tent.

    • geo michalopulos says

I don’t think our tent will ever be as insane (and bloody) as the one on the Left. I’ll take Reagan over Mao any day. If we want to include the bad boys, I’d still take Franco over Lenin.

      • Bishop Tikhon Fitzgerald says

I’d prefer Nancy Reagan or Shirley Temple or Shirley Maclaine or Marlene Dietrich to Mao…so what? is that supposed to be reasoned discourse? As for Lenin…oh…I’d take Queen Elizabeth over him, but I think I’d prefer Lenin to Ann Coulter or the Bachmann woman. So what ? Nate Trost is right to see this as a most puerile puff piece. But thanks for the great picture of President Obama. I wish I had a big copy to put on the wall behind my monitor! I’d also like to see Kerry and McCain mounted and in armor, charging windmills with a manual version of a Cruise Missile. Now those Cruise Missiles are bound to cause President Assad to go all to pieces, right? Hmmm. Too bad Saddam Hussein’s not still around…we could have him volley some poison gas onto the Syrian government forces, just as our previous presidents had him volley our poison gas onto the draftees and volunteers in the Iranian armed forces not long ago!!!! Has President Obama not been informed of all the possibilities explored by his predecessors?
It’s too much to hope for, but it would be exciting if President Obama would ask Congress to authorize sending some cruise missiles to Turkey, since the Turkish Thug is maintaining custody of those two Bishops on behalf of the rebels.
I find it ironic, too, to find so many singing the praises of and imitating Kerry, who’s doing the same thing for the Middle East that he did for Serbia!! GET the Syrian Thug! Get the Serbian Thug! And be manly, Netanyahu is watching!!!!

5-Alarm Fire Destroys Historic Southie Church
By Jack Lepiarz August 21, 2013

Firefighters work to quell Wednesday’s fire at St. John the Baptist Albanian Orthodox Church in South Boston. (Jack Lepiarz/WBUR)

Firefighters set up a safety zone around the church, in case it collapses, and closed streets immediately surrounding the church, at the corner of Broadway and F Street.

The damage to the 150-year-old building is estimated at more than $1 million.

Saint John The Baptist Church was built in 1862, originally as a Protestant church. Then, after 34 years as a Jewish synagogue, hosting the temple Ohabei Shalom, it was bought by the Greek Orthodox community in 1921.

Anybody from Detroit know if that old red-brick Albanian mosque over on, either Dexter or Third, I think, is still there? I wonder if the RJ type problem solvers have tried picketing that place, so far from Dearborn?

  3. Mr. Michalopoulos, I haven’t visited this blog in some time, so I have a lot of catching up to do, but first two matters, this post, and the final comment on your right column. This morning my Old Calendar text from Corinthians begins ‘the one who sows and the one who waters are equal’. Consider me, from outside the fold, one who waters.

First, with respect to this subject, I grieve, as must the mighty Saint Mary of Egypt whose path I follow. But there are greater tasks of mourning with respect to Obama, evidenced from his first days in office. And I speak as one who voted for him back then. The man has the blood of innocents on his hands, and that is the first hurdle I cannot get over in talking about him.

But I came here this morning thinking about the comment – I will truncate it here, as I am sure your regular readers will have it in mind:

    Archpriest John W. Morris says:
    August 13, 2013 at 8:35 pm
If a person takes Communion knowing that they are under penance they have committed a terrible sin. If a person who has committed a sin that they know would prevent them from taking Communion without Confession they have also committed a terrible sin. If someone comes up to Communion who is unknown to the Priest or Deacon, he should ask them if they are Orthodox and try as diplomatically as possible to tell them that only Orthodox may receive Holy Communion…
…. If a person who is not Orthodox claims to be Orthodox to take Communion in the Orthodox Church, they have committed a terrible sin.
    ______

Today’s Gospel reading, Old Calendar, ends:

“…And when the men of that place recognized him, they went around to all that region and brought to him all that were sick, and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment, and as many as touched it were made whole.”

The examples that Father Morris gives, and many such on this forum, are of the many that are sick in this present age. And it will not be the Eucharist that Our Lord is happy to see you have guarded, even if the big Church has put that into an edict. It will be the sick and the suffering He will ask you and me about, as Matthew does remind us. So I am horrified to read of the classification and denial to those for whom Christ came.

My little church says, all who desire the Eucharist ought to be welcomed. Questioning their faith is not the issue; questioning their need is. Even the great Saint Mary of Egypt, while still in her many greivous sins, was given the sacrament before she set out on her personal pilgrimage.

Thank you for this opportunity to speak my mind.

    • Trudge at SmartVote says

      Juliana,

To respond to your assertion, not from a modern opinion, but from the Holy Scriptures:

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. -Epistle to the Hebrews, Chapter 10

    • Michael Bauman says

Juliana, St. Mary of Egypt was not able to partake of the Holy Mysteries until after she had repented.

    • Archpriest John W. Morris says

With all due respect, what is important for an Orthodox Christian is what the Bible and the other manifestations of the Holy Tradition of the Church teach not what your “little church” teaches you.
St. Paul write, ” Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. ” I Cor. 11:27-29.
The Holy Tradition of the Church teaches us that the Eucharist is only for the faithful who have prepared properly. In the ancient Church non-communicants were asked to leave before the Great Entrance and the beginning of the Eucharisic part of the Divine Liturgy. As a Priest it is my duty to act as guardian of the chalice and not to knowingly give the Mystery to someone who is not Orthodox or who is Orthodox, but is in a state of serious sin that makes the ineligible to receive the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ.

      • Bishop Tikhon Fitzgerald says

“Guardian of the Chalice” sounds “little church” in origin, no? I believe it is the unbeliever who must b e protected from the Chalice, since partaking of it unworthily is so terrifyingly deadly. Many felt that the ancient curtain before the Altar, which precedes the Holy Gates, is there as much to protect the unprepared or undiscerning from Encounter with That Which would visit judgment on them.

  4. Words of Mohammad on Protecting Orthodox Christians says

As we learn more and more of the escalating persecution in Egypt we must wonder why so many of Egypt’s Muslims (the devout hyper Muslims) have so easily ignored the words of their Prophet?

    from Father Viktor Potopov

Here is the Firman of Muhammed in 680 AD given to the monks of Mount Sinai and protecting Christians. Today the Muslims have no respect for the words of their Prophet.

    -oOo-

“This is a message from Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.

Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens, and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.

No compulsion is to be on them.

Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.

No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses.

Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey his prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.

No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.

The Muslims are to fight for them.

If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.

Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.

No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the last day (end of the world).”

Well, for starters the later conquer and pillage parts of the Koran supercede the earlier parts (which the elusive “moderate” Muslim making a TV appearance claims to follow). In fact all the nice parts of the Koran could just have been a trick of Satan, since Satan tricked prophet Mo before and big Mo had to abrogate parts of his revelation about the three goddesses who are exalted. Now if violent Koran cancels out early Koran (Mo wasn’t very successful until he took to caravan raiding), so much more so it cancels out any orders to protect Christians in a particular region, even if such were taken as genuine (color me skeptical). Muslims have the example of Mo breaking peace treaties, assassinating enemy leaders, assassinating blind poets and the like, wiping out entire Jewish tribes, etc, etc, as examples of how to please their deity.

    • Bishop Tikhon Fitzgerald says

Hi, “Ladder of Divine Ascent!” I don’t think you are as qualified to evaluate Mohammad, islam and the teaching of the Qur’an as was that great Teacher of the Church, SaInt John of Damascus. In the section of his great work on Orthodox teaching, he discusses the heresy of Islam in detail. He was, you surely know, the Vizier to the Umayyad Caliph of Baghdad (as was his Christian father before him). Christians who revered holy Icons were much better off under ANY Muslim ruler than under the ‘Christian’ Emperor of Byzantium at that time. Constantinople’s “heresy of the decade” in those days was Iconoclasm. The rather literate monks of the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mt. Sinai also owe the existence of their very oldest Orthodox icons, made in the old wax-caustic method: they were not at all unhappy t to be DHIMMI of the Muslim Caliphate.

I’m afraid that anyone who argues here that the laudable parts of the Qur’an are a trick of Satan really needs help and Monomakhos is not the place to find therapy for such a pathology.. Are you of age? in an institution, perhaps? (Nothing ;wrong with that—such insititutions sometimes are very beneficial to their inmates and to society. We don’t know your Christian name, of which you are not proud, or you gender or anything significant about you, save for these frankly irrational outbursts about Islam. You could just write out your Christian name and we’ll all pray for you!

  7. {I spied the following article on the informative web. Any reactions?}

THE BACKGROUND OBAMA CAN’T COVER UP

(Each human is part of this “River.” Are you an “oxbow lake”?)

Islam, part of the Living River of History, affected even the 2012 US election!
The “headwaters” of this River was Adam, according to Judaism, Christianity, Islam etc.
In the OT (Deut. 28), “tributaries” wanting to join the River are blessed while “distributaries” wanting to flow away from it are cursed. Those wishing to totally separate from the fresh Living River become polluted, dying “oxbow lakes.”
In the OT we see Israelites repeatedly flowing away from God, then repenting and returning to Him; we also see heathen “oxbow lakes” creating their own little “gods” and being allowed by God to plunder and kill the erring Israelites.
Then, at the right time, the Living River took on new life with the arrival of the Promised One who offers “living water.”
In the 7th century Islam, drawing from both OT and NT, chose to be a distributary away from this River. Many scholars have viewed it as the final Antichrist: note “scourge” (Isa. 28), “Assyrian” (Mic. 5), “Euphrates” (Rev. 9) etc. (Google “Prof. F. N. Lee’s ISLAM IN THE BIBLE [PDF].” Dr. Lee, BTW, has nine (!) earned doctorates in various fields.)
God will allow this “scourge” to temporarily persecute and kill apostate Jews (JINOs) and Christians (CINOs). Jews, especially in “entertainment,” seem more expert in apostasy than Christians since Jews have been at it 2000 years longer than Christians have (Google “jewishfaces.com/porn.html”) – but Christians apparently want to catch up to the Jews!
It’s apparent that others will join Islam in its end-time inquisition; its great oil wealth can captivate many leaders and already we’re seeing apostate American leaders being bribed into turning against true American patriots.
Those who ignore (or try to dilute or destroy) the God-ordained Living River of History will be swept down it to an ocean made by their own never-ending tears of agony and despair.
The good news is that American JINOs & CINOs can overcome the “scourge” discussed above. The secret is found by checking out “II Chronicles 7:14” & “John 3:16” on the web.
There’s still time – and freedom – to Google or MSN “Obama Promotes Public Sex,” “Obama a Black-Slavery Avenger?,” “Dangerous Radicals of the Religious Right,” “Pretrib Rapture Politics,” “Mikey Weinstein, Jesus-Basher,” “Christ’s return is NOT imminent,” “Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty,” “Pretrib Rapture Secrecy,” “Pretrib Rapture Pride,” and (for dessert) “Pretrib Rapture Stealth.”
In light of Matthew 7:2, if we tolerate Christian leaders who lie to us and steal from us, we shouldn’t be surprised if God allows us to have political leaders who lie to us and steal from us!

A Kansas Patriot (who won FIRST PLACE over 2200 entrants in a nationwide Americanism essay contest)

    • Bishop Tikhon Fitzgerald says

Oh, dear! What “rich” writing! A river flowing FROM a crock INTO another crock!
Americanism is a heresy, as are all “isms.” How did the Christian Church grow and flourish for 1500 years before anyone heard of America? Sounds like the idea of “America” is superfluous, no? Rather, ONE THING is needful.
