For Your Edification & Pleasure

As you all may have all noticed, we’ve been busy little beavers here at Monomakhos.  So busy that we can’t keep up with all the news.  That’s why several months ago, we came up with the idea of having tabs to other top-of-the-line websites which you can access under our logo.

At first, we had only a few, like Helleniscope, The Symbolic World, and Turley Talks, but then we added more.  We hope that in doing so, you can make Monomakhos a “go-to” site for all your news and information.

Monomakhos is dedicated to religion, politics, and culture and we have added the links to websites and podcasts that touch on all three aspects.

While some are strictly Orthodox, such as Orthochristian, Russian Faith, and Byzantine, Tx, others, like The Duran, are tops in the geopolitical field.  We also applaud those sites that don’t shy away from cultural issues, like Dissident Mama, or political ones like  Counterflow

And Fr John Peck’s Ecclesioclasm offers some of the best analyses of the news out there with an eye-opening perspective on future trends.  If you want to order icons of saints (both Western as well as Eastern), I recommend Orthocelts.

Every now and then we like to throw in something purely secular like The Dive, mainly because Jackson Hinkle is one of the few podcasters out there who can break through the Corporate Media blackout of really important topics.   For a young whippersnapper, he’s at the top of his game.

And how could we be remiss by not bringing you The Babylon Bee?  Their satire is one of the few things keeping the normal half of our nation sane.  Their videos are as funny as Saturday Night Live used to be.

You will also find excellent writing and analysis by the likes of Handwriting on the Wall and Orthodox Reflections.  For information about Russia, there’s Russian Faith, Katehon, and The Vineyard of the Saker.

These are all great sites and we invite you to tap on any one of them whenever you have a free moment.

Gail and I took this step because we believe you deserve the most enjoyable, thought-provoking, and insightful reading experience possible.   Drop us a comment or two on anything you hear that might be of interest to share with the group.

As always, we treasure your readership and commentary, and thank you for making this blog a success.  We’ve learned a lot from you over the years and we expect that to continue as we walk the gauntlet of the future together.

Pax!

  1. I applaud your design and thank you for it.
Unfortunately I am currently unable to connect to thesaker.is
I don’t know if this is a technical or a governmental problem,
but would not be at all surprised to discover it is the latter,
particularly given the UK government’s totalitarian internet policies.

    • Their https got DDOS’ed today and they swtiched to http, but neither work now.

      • Thanks for the info, Basil.
I suspected dirty deeds were done,
But it seems uk.gov is not responsible
        (which is a double-edged comment).

  2. Thanks for all the work y’all do

Hoping y’all do more podcasts in the future, those are always great

Another, highly recommended blogspot is Andrei Martyonov’s Reminiscence of the Future.

    A snippet from today:

What does he mean by this. This is exactly what he means and what I warned about for years, with SMO being a kinetic resolution to a collapsing Pax Americana.

They should have realized that they had already lost from the very beginning of our special military operation, because its beginning also means the beginning of a complete breakdown of the American world order.
They still didn’t recognize that while Russia was playing relatively nice, they had the chance to arrange their defeat with proper decorum and diplomatic niceties, and, maybe, even benefit from it in the long run. But that is not how Western “elites” are brought up and “educated” and they double down, violating the main principle of escaping from the deep hole–you must stop digging to have a chance. But not these guys.
I am also on record that Russian Armed Forces are using a small fraction of its forces in SMO and even this small fraction, aided by heroic LDNR militias, has demolished VSU as an organized force in 3 months. You don’t have to listen to me on this issue–a number of US (and European) military experts admit that before SMO VSU [Ukrainian Army] were second largest, after Turkey, army in Europe and were probably second in terms of military capability, not to mention the fact of a direct NATO command and ISR. That is why I repeat ad nauseam–this is not Afghanistan 2.0, this is much-much worse for the Western world and this specimen is just the first to be removed from power, because he, including through his sophomoric PR, contributed mightily to turning already inconsequential, for emerging global new order,

Also Larry Johnson’s (Gateway Pundit) blog:

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/07/getting-rid-joe-biden-possible-scenarios/

Johnson is ex-CIA among other things. Decidedly anti-neocon.

    • I have been burned before by posting what turned out to be disinfo. from Gateway Pundit. “Ex-CIA”…hmmm. I really wonder if there can be any such thing.

    • I cannot access the Saker for many days. I searched around the web to learn why. I read that many Russian sites are being blocked. The article stated that the http format adds the letter S and makes http into https when you try to access the site. I am not a tech person so I do not know what to do

      • Gail Sheppard says

They put out a notice that they were being attacked. It can take several days to work out the problems. 🙁

For some odd reason, I can’t access Vineyard of the Saker today. Is anybody else having any trouble?

And I HIGHLY recommend Jacob Dreizin:

    https://thedreizinreport.com/2022/06/30/dreizin-on-viva-frei/

He’s a White Hat who works for the Fed govt. If/when Trump is installed as POTUS, I would suggest nominating him to be Ambassador to Russia. He speaks Russian and is very anti-neocon.

The relationship between a real America (as opposed to the present Bolshevist “unAmerica”) and Russia needs to be healed immediately upon Trump’s re-election. I can think of no better man than Dreizin.

You guys should also link to the OrthodoxNetwork Blog, https://www.orthodoxytoday.org/blog/. They have a lot of good stuff also.

    George and Gail
This is my #1 go-to site. It is one of a very small number of sites where even most of the commentators display superior synaptic function as well as critical thinking and analysis.
Thank God there are still people around who can actually think….and write that exercise the little gray cells 🙂

  12. George Michalopulos says

    Thank YOU, Dionysia!

  13. From Moon of Alabama: “the Saker is under DDOS attack, trying to solve it. “

    • George Michalopulos says

For those with some military knowledge, I highly recommend Moon of Alabama as well.

  14. Thanks for the hard work, this is a great site.
Here is a possible addition for your consideration:
    https://www.patristicfaith.com/
Fr. Deacon Ananias, and Chase Mudd have a great site for traditional Orthodox teachings, and lots of daily content updates.
    Cheers,
    Wil

  15. A great selection of informative sites, which makes it easier to keep on top of events both in the Church and the world at large. Thanks to both of you for your effort in running this site and allowing the edifying and educational discussions that take place here.

I am happy to report that The Vineyard of the Saker is now back up and running. A snippet from today:

NordStream 1 is now offline for annual maintenance until July 21st. Will Russia turn it back on?

Comment from Martyanov: I also want to stress, again, that bar some obvious high-end involvement by Russian combat aviation, stand-off weapons, obvious state-of-the-art ISR and artillery, it is clear that by now the bulk of fighting on the ground is performed by LDNR forces and Russia’s National Guard (Rosgvardiya) and main forces, are being held in reserved and are used very sparingly. So, I guess Ukie 1 million-strong army is about to get acquainted with all the firepower of Russian Army, wink, wink.
