Ron “Deep State Dion” DeSantis Just Committed Political Suicide

The other day, Gov Ron DeSantis of Florida committed political suicide when he chimed in a jocular fashion on the expected indictment and arrest of President Trump.

Someone should sit him down and advise him that whatever else he’s been told, there is no viable path to the Republican nomination in 2024 without significant MAGA support.

It’s too late to offer any advice at this point.  Water under the bridge; spilt milk; you get the drift.   It’s not too late to do an autopsy, so the next Trump-on-the-horizon can learn from his mistakes.

What  should he have said?  Something like:  “This is political theater.  It’s a sham; at best the charge against President Trump is a misdemeanor.  As Governor of the Great State of Florida, I am taking it upon myself to protect the former President because no citizen of this State will be extradited for political purposes.”

Had he done that –and even if he had lost the court battle–then he would have risen instantly in the polls.  He would have gained significant MAGA support and shown himself to be a man who’s not intimidated by a few partisan flunkies working for some third-rate DA in New York who was put in power by George Soros.

I realize that some of this might be too “inside baseball” so I’ll let Robert Barnes on the Viva Frei podcast better frame it for you: https://rumble.com/v2e47d4-what-ron-desantis-did-today-is-end-his-political-career-viva-and-barnes-on-.html?mref=6zof&mc=dgip3&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=vivafrei&ep=2

So why did he do it?  His instincts up to now have been quite good if you ask me.  Unfortunately, his campaign crew has been taking orders the RINO establishment, especially Paul Ryan, whose hatred for Donald Trump is legendary.  Word on the street is that he’s been told that if Trump is actually arrested, then DeSantis will have an easy path to the Republican nomination.  This of course is utter nonsense:  if DeSantis were able to reach the nomination, he would be taken out in a heartbeat by that same Deep State establishment that took out Trump.   He would in fact be the “Hitler” of 2024.  I’m old enough to remember every GOP president from Nixon to Trump being called Hitler.  Candidate DeSantis would be no different.  I’m actually surprised that he doesn’t see that.  (Maybe his instincts aren’t that great after all.)

That’s too bad because up to now, he’s said and done all the right trumpian things.  The reality though is that he ain’t Trump.  Trump’s a billionaire, which means he can’t be bought.  He has what’s known as “serious F U money.”  DeSantis doesn’t have that; this means he’s on a tight leash and there’s only so much trumpian things he’d be allowed to get away with.  After all, there’s only so much independence they can handle.

As for how politically disastrous this was for DeSantis, please take the time to look at Dr Steve Turley’s latest podcast in which he goes deep into the weeds of the the governor’s polling before and after yesterday’s events.  The title says it all:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mafansaWUo

It’s really ironic when you think about it; in fact, unnecessary.  As of today, it looks like the grand jury that was being empaneled to indict the former President on Tuesday desisted for some reason until they again meet again on Monday.  It’s possible they postponed it to formally charge Trump because the entire process was turning into a gigantic stink bomb in the DA’s office.

In other words, it wouldn’t have cost DeSantis anything and he would have come out smelling like a rose either way.  In the meantime, his poll numbers are cratering while Trump’s are rising.

Comments

  1. Ron D. has- and always had the best interests of Florida; Don T. has- and always had the best interests of our Country! Ron D. rhymes with Don T.

    • And that’s what’s sad. Ron DeSantis has been an excellent governor for Florida. In fact, Sunshine Staterrs have had an incredible run of luck in chief executives, second only to Texas.

  2. Zelas Metrikas says

I was a Reagan Republican since 1968 and support Pence & Pompeo, not Trump

    • Judas Pence? Mike Pompeo, together with Bartholomew birthed the abomination known as the sect of Dumenko.

      No thanks.

And while I’m at it: no to Nikki Haley, she started the great iconoclasm of 2020 when she foolishly took down the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia from the South Carolina State Capitol. How’d that work out for America?

  3. In your world, if someone who is conservative and doesn’t like Trump, does that automatically make him/her a Rino?

    • A lot people don’t like Trump but even the “left of the center” folks will vote for him because we’ve all seen the alternative. We’re living in a bonified nightmare unless you like fighting other people’s wars up to (and hopefully not including) a nuclear war. For what? Democracy?! We don’t even have a democracy here if our elections are any proof, let alone in Ukraine where Zelensky is literally threatening the lives of the canonical Church.

I think Orthodox Christians need to pick a side. There is nothing democratic about any of this. Russia has done nothing to us (so far). It’s NATO who invaded a sovereign country so they could aim their war machine at Russia. Ukraine isn’t even in NATO! Russia wouldn’t be fighting Ukraine if NATO and the Pentagon stayed out of it. (Forgive my ranting. None of this directed at you.)

Did you ever hear the story about the two wolves?

      ONE EVENING, AN ELDERLY
      CHEROKEE BRAVE TOLD HIS
      GRANDSON ABOUT A BATTLE THAT
      GOES ON INSIDE PEOPLE.

HE SAID “MY SON, THE BATTLE IS
BETWEEN TWO ‘WOLVES’ INSIDE US ALL.
ONE IS EVIL. IT IS ANGER,
      ENVY, JEALOUSY, SORROW,
      REGRET, GREED, ARROGANCE,
      SELF-PITY, GUILT, RESENTMENT,
      INFERIORITY, LIES, FALSE PRIDE,
      SUPERIORITY, AND EGO.

      THE OTHER IS GOOD.
IT IS JOY, PEACE LOVE, HOPE SERENITY,
      HUMILITY, KINDNESS, BENEVOLENCE,
      EMPATHY, GENEROSITY,
      TRUTH, COMPASSION AND FAITH.”

      THE GRANDSON THOUGH ABOUT
IT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN ASKED
      HIS GRANDFATHER:

      “WHICH WOLF WINS?…”

      THE OLD CHEROKEE SIMPLY REPLIED,
      “THE ONE THAT YOU FEED”

We’re FEEDING the war in Ukraine. The best way to stop this war is for us to get out of it.

      • So in other words, the answer is yes.

        That’s unfortunate.

        • I think I said it doesn’t matter. What matters is getting him back in office.

          • Him? Why him? Conservatives have and want to have other options.

            • With all due respect Mike, who do we have as alternatives? Bolton the war-monger? Pompeo, the godfather of Dumenko? Haley, the woman who created the present iconoclasm? DeSantis said the right things about getting out of the Ukraine but his DS handlers yanked his chain.

If you know of any other GOP who is not leashed by the DS, let me know and I might think about it.

          • Be careful! You sound like how libs and leftist “answer” questions!

            • Not really. ALL CONSERVATIVES WILL VOTE FOR TRUMP because every other possible alternative will be ruled out when Trump get’s through with them. It’s no surprise (at least to me) that DeSantis peaked early. Watch for the next in line to fall, as well.

              • Yes really, you do sound like how Lefties/libs not answer questions!

                • Sure. Whatever.

                  • Constantine, one thing about conservatives is that we don’t mind having back-and-forths about politics. Gail and I like to look at all sides of the question and while we don’t agree 100% of the time (who does?) whenever we do arrive at a conclusion, you can be sure we did so dispassionately.

The thing about Trump vs everybody else in the GOP is that he’s been on the right side of most issues. Moreover, he has this uncanny ability to “catch a wave” and “ride it,” said “wave” being anti-globalism.

That wave is catching on all over the world. Ever since the Deep Staters created the cult of Zelensky, we’ve seen almost every American ally in Europe take a dive. So too with all the RINOs and cuckservatives who the DS is trying to get to run against Trump. The closest they got was DeSantis, who it is clear now is a Trump wannabe.

So, I’ll gladly hitch my wagon to Trump’s star any day of the week.

                    • And nobody, even the Rinos, are going to make the mistake of getting in the way of that wave regardless of whether or not they “like” Trump. Politics is never about who you “like.”

                    • We need someone who is going to also hitch their wago to/ride the multipolar wave. It’s here to stay and the days of a unipolar world are over.

We can either go along with it and still be an incredibly well-off country, or, we can keep doing what we’re currently doing and be the bully in the corner that all the other kids have finally ganged up against.

                    • One thing few people appreciate about the situation is how Trump relates to the two steals in 2020 and 2022. I was looking to see what Trump decided on 2024 after the 2022 steal. My reasoning was that Trump hates to lose and will pull out all the stops to win every facet he is aware is in play. They caught him off guard for some reason in 2020, though they had cheated in 2016 as well. But 2022 showed they cannot confine themselves to stealing from Trump but also from all MAGA candidates.

The only operative question in my mind was whether Trump thought he could either stop another steal in 2024 or beat them at their own game that year. It seems he has done the math and calculated that he can.

I doubt any other candidate is even thinking in those terms. Some of them can’t even admit what happened in 2020/2022.

  4. Antiochene Son says

I’m still done with Trump. Voted for him twice, but he surrounded himself with swamp creatures and he doesn’t deserve another chance after failing to pardon the January 6 protestors. The ultimate disloyalty and betrayal.

The MAGA continent would do better pressuring for policies they want rather than focusing on Trump. Major concessions could be won.

    • I wish that were true, AS. While I admire the fortitude of the 20 Republicans who brilliantly and strategically forced concessions from McCarthy in order for him to become Speaker, we’re still stuck with McCarthy as Speaker.

As a conservative, I hate to admit it but “the personal is political.” Without a Trump at the top of the executive branch, America-firstism is inert.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m scouring the horizon for another, more successful Trumpian candidate; I just don’t see him on the horizon. Never forget, only Trump is a billionaire who had the moolah to withstand the arm-twisting of the DS.
