Mr. Magoo & His Boy Child Epiphany

Petros brought the following to our attention.

Today, the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine, AKA the OCU, is drafting a new Statuary Charter that, frankly, flies in face of what the Ecumenical Patriarch said he envisioned for Ukraine when he first gave the Church over to the Nazi in 2018.

You can’t breathe life into an institutional organism that doesn’t have the DNA of the Church.  It morphs into a monster, showing it’s creator to be as myopic as Mr. Magoo, as he dances across the global stage.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uz3I77MB-c

Because the tomos prevents the OCU from doing anything without Bartholomew (note:  they are not really autocephalous), he may be dictating the terms of this new charter to rid Ukraine of the canonical Church.

Desperate to have all things Russian within his grasp, which now include its Holy Monasteries and Parishes, he needs this thing to happen now, before Russia overtakes Ukraine, which the State Department probably promised him would never happen.

Time is running out because when Russia assumes control, there is sure to be a reckoning on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Bartholomew had long hoped he could thwart what is looking more and more like an inevitability, i.e. Russia as the Third Rome.  I suspect the Russian Church has no intention of allowing Epiphany to assert himself over the canonical Church.  Given the violence and theft executed under, and on behalf of, Epiphany, he (and perhaps even Bartholomew), could be charged with war crimes.

The laws of war prohibit willful killing, rape and other sexual violence, torture, and inhumane treatment of captured combatants and civilians in custody. Pillage and looting are also prohibited. Anyone who orders or deliberately commits such acts, or aids and abets them, is responsible for war crimes. Those in authority who knew or had reason to know about such crimes but did not attempt to stop them or punish those responsible are criminally liable for war crimes as a matter of command responsibility.  One could easily argue the Orthodox are indeed “captured civilians” trapped in the custody of the Zelensky government.

So to recap, Bartholomew not only moved into another bishop’s territory, he is now allowing his protégé to pillage and dissolve the communities under the authority of another bishop.  He is also confiscating its properties with the intent of allowing a national church take them over.

It’s like raping a man’s wife and kicking him out of his home.

This is a sacrilege within the Church, especially given that Epiphany is not ordained.  He’s a schismatic and if that wasn’t clear before, it should be now.  He’s not operating as the Church; not in faith or in practice.  He’s operating as a brutal dictator.

But Mr. Magoo may have an even bigger problem which he should have been able to foresee from the “get go.”  It appears as if Epiphany is going rogue and this may have far reaching consequences for the EP.  The new charter no longer provides for the creation of a Joint Committee, together with the Ecumenical Patriarchate.  It has obliterated its obligation to consult with the Ecumenical Patriarch even on ecclesiastical matters.

If Bartholomew denounces Epiphany’s actions for violating the terms of the tomos, Epiphany would lose his status as metropolitan and Bartholomew would end up with egg on his face for putting him in that position.

However, if he does nothing, Bartholomew will also end up with egg on his face.

Egg is on his face, period.  He screwed up royally.

Finally, “it is emphasized that the AEO exercises its jurisdiction not only over the entire territory of Ukraine, but also over the entire Orthodox Church of Ukraine.  This can be interpreted broadly, by the Patriarchates of Moscow, Romania and Serbia, which establish the ecclesiastical provinces and parishes abroad. After all, if a cleric of the AEO is found e.g. in Amsterdam or Brussels, he will, as before, be subject to the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, even if he establishes his own Ukrainian parish there.”

The only way to resolve this disastrous state of affairs is for the patriarchs of both the Ancient and Local Churches to object.  If they fail to act, they will be equally responsible for a situation that is fast spiraling out Bartholomew’s control, if he was ever in control in the first place.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, according to information from the Ukrainian media, the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine will be held, where a draft of the “Statutory Charter” will be approved, which was posted by the Ukrainian Telegram Churcher channel.

It should be mentioned that the AEO has until today observed the Volume and the Statute of the Ecumenical Patriarchate approved in 2018.

When comparing the old “Statute” of 2018 with the new “Statute” of AEO, a series of amendments regarding the internal administration of the Church can be seen.

A characteristic modification which is obvious is the aggressiveness of the new Statute towards the competitors.

Specifically, Section A “General Provisions” is much more aggressive in its content than the older AEO documents.

In par. 1.4 it is stated that the presence on the territory of Ukraine of “Ecclesiastical Provinces, Holy Monasteries and Communities” of the Moscow Patriarchate (i.e. the body of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church) “constitutes a violation of the principles of canon law and a distortion that requires correction”.

Also, the AEO does not want any dialogue with the Metropolitan of Kyiv, Mr. Onufrios, while demanding the “normal unity of all the Orthodox of Ukraine under the omophorion of Metropolitan Epiphanius.

Under the conditions of the persecutions, which the Ukrainian state almost declared against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the text is judged as an ultimatum to all Orthodox Christians of Ukraine with the dilemma to join the AEO, otherwise the communities will be dissolved and the churches will be occupied.

In essence, the Church of Metropolitan Epiphanius claims the right of all Orthodox Holy Monasteries and Parishes, to which jurisdiction they may be subject.

Even the new Charter of the AEO once again declares that the so-called “Patriarchy of Kyiv” does not exist and that the successor of all its communities is assumed by the AEO (par. 1.5).

It also “reserves the right to the exclusive name” of the organization “Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Kyiv”, which according to analysts looks like a hint of a future Patriarchate.

It is interesting to compare the new “Statute of AEO administration” of 2023 with the old text of the “Statute Charter” of 2018, which was drawn up with the assistance of Hierarchs and Experts of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

In the new “Statute” the mutual relationship with the Ecumenical Throne is reflected much more simply, while certain privileges of the Ecumenical Patriarchate concerning cooperation are ignored.

1. The right of appeal by hierarchs and clerics by petitioning before the Ecumenical Throne, which was previously mentioned in the “Statute Charter” of 2018 (par. 1.4, 11), is missing from the new “Statute” of 2023. The last judicial degree for the bishops the “Local Clergy and Laity Assembly” is established, i.e. Assembly of clergy and laity (Statutory Charter of 2023, par. 12.3.1), while for the clergy “Synod of Hierarchy” of the AEO (par. 12.3.2), and for the monks and laity Holy Synod of the OEO (par. 12.3.3).

2. The new Charter of 2023 no longer provides for the creation of a Joint Committee together with the Ecumenical Patriarchate to deal with issues that are not included in the Charter (Statutory Charter of the AEO of 2018, par. 1.3). Also missing from the new Charter is the reference of the “Holy Synod of the Hierarchy” to the Ecumenical Patriarch “for major ecclesiastical issues” (Statutory Charter of the OEO of 2018, par. 4.3). On the contrary, the new Statutory Charter repeatedly emphasizes that the “Clerical Assembly” is the “last stage” for dealing with all the issues important for the ecclesiastical life of the AEO.

3. Also missing from the new Charter of the AEO is the mention from the old one of 2018: “The Orthodox Christians in the Orthodox Diaspora are shepherded among the above by the provincial Bishops of the Ecumenical Patriarchate” (par. 1.4). In par. 1.4 of the new Charter it is emphasized that the AEO exercises its jurisdiction not only “over the entire territory of Ukraine”, but also “over the entire Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. This can be interpreted broadly, as interpreted by e.g. the Patriarchates of Moscow, Romania and Serbia, which establish the ecclesiastical provinces and parishes abroad. After all, if a cleric of the AEO is found e.g. in Amsterdam or Brussels, he will, as before, be subject to the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, even if he establishes his own Ukrainian parish there…

4. The new “Statute” lacks the need to report to the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the issue of the inclusion of new Saints in the Monthly Calendar (2018 Statutory Charter, par. 4.9). The new Statute defines the inclusion of the Saints in the Calendar by the “Holy Synod of the Hierarchy” and the “Clerical Assembly” of the AEO (2.5.4, 3.8.5).

5. The beautiful wordings of the old Statute of 2018 (par. 1.2) were somehow eliminated from the new Statute Charter (par. 1.2) regarding the “granting of its status (of the Autocephalus s.s.) vacuotically from the martyred Hieroanonic body of the Mother Church in Constantinople” . Dependence on the Ecumenical Patriarchate is limited to the simple commemoration of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s name together with other Primates (4.26.2), the presence of the crucifixes of Constantinople in Ukraine (1.4) and the reception of the Holy Myrrh (5.9.22).

Most of all, the “Akroteleution” section of the new “Statutory Charter” (par. 13) complicates the situation.

There it is stated that both the Autocephaly Volume of 2019 and the “Statutory Charter of the AEO” of 2018 and the new “Statutory Charter of Management” are “the statutory documents” of the AEO and at the same time “have superior force”.

With all this, it is not understood how those principles of both Statutes, which conflict with each other, will be related to each other.

L.g. on the “Clerical Assembly” of the AEO as the last jurisdictional level and on the right of its hierarchs and clergy to appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch.

Finally, ecclesiastical sources clarify that the text of the new “Management Statute” was designed for “internal” consumption by the Ukrainians, in order to demonstrate to Ukraine and the citizens the maximum possible independence of the AEO, while the old “Statute Charter” of 2018 remains to be demonstrated to the “external agent” the Ecumenical Patriarchate.  https://hellas.postsen.com/world/353756/Questions-arise-with-the-new-Statute-of-the-Church-of-Ukraine.html

  1. Abbot Tryphon calls a spade a spade. Beginning just before the five-minute mark of this video, he blames Bartholomew and the U. S. State Dept. for creating a false church in the Ukraine and laying the groundwork for the present war there. He also has choice words about transgenderism, Pope Francis, some of our national politicians, and Greek Orthodox Archbishop you-know-who. At the eight-minute mark, the abbot calls on clergy and laity alike to speak out, telling our bishops, “Enough of this! We want our Church back! … and … By remaining silent, we are aiding and abetting the demons.” The whole video lasts less than minutes.

    • He’s not kidding about the demons.

    • Thanks for this.
      I am passing it on.

    • Axios to Abbot Tryphon. The more mainstream people like Abbot Tryphon, Monomakhos, Helleniscope, Jay Dyer, etc., speak out against all of this, the more pressure the bishops will feel. It’s unfortunate that this is what it takes, but, here we are. This is the duty of the faithful laity in Orthodoxy.

He also has another very good video from the other day as well:

    • Desperate to have all things Russian within his grasp, which now include its Holy Monasteries and Parishes, he needs this thing to happen now, before Russia overtakes Ukraine, which the State Department probably promised him would never happen.

This video you posted by the Abbot helped me. I am so happy the Abbot spoke out. I have seen an abomination against the Cross last night on Twitter approved by the LA Dodgers for their Pride Day Event. The Cross was mocked by two transvestites! The churches must stop this ASAP. I called Target headquarters. I called Senators. I call House Representatives. I called Budweiser. I pray. I am taking a stand against the heinous actions of Patriarch Bartholomew. The GOA hierarchy is infected with such darkness that even most of the priests say nothing. OMG!

  2. The only way to resolve this disastrous state of affairs is for the patriarchs of both the Ancient and Local Churches to object. If they fail to act, they will be equally responsible for a situation that is fast spiraling out Bartholomew’s control, if he was ever in control in the first place

This is the million dollar question. Many of the Churches have spoken out against the atrocities at the Lavra, and many Churches have been calling for a pan-Orthodox synod/council to address the situation, namely the Churches of Jerusalem & Poland.

But as of yet none of them, except maybe the Churches of Georgia & Serbia have named Bartholomew directly responsible for the schism that is currently plaguing the Church. As a side note, though there are for sure theological aspects to this schism, I would say it is also largely a political and ethnic schism as only the Greeks have followed.

The OCU has officially changed their calendar because “muh Russia.”

    Please help…what does

  4. Antiochene Son says

If there is any question what life would be like in American Orthodoxy if the EP/GOA took over everything, there you have it. Now we know why the Holy Spirit has said “not yet” to jurisdictional unity in America.

  5. Jeff Moss says

That was a quick turnaround! OCU will be on the Revised Julian Calendar beginning this September 1…

Orthodox Church of Ukraine changes calendar

    • The Council of Foreign Relations is delighted! They are one step closer to achieving their New World Order! All they have to do now is hasten the deconstruction of the USA which is occurring by the hour. 2030 here we come..

  6. Greek Soprano says

I’ve never commented here before but I am an avid follower and reader of this blog. I really appreciate the viewpoints from the Orthodox perspective, which is sorely lacking in western media – even on shows like Steve Bannon’s WarRoom – which has a laser sharp focus on geopolitics, but somehow never addresses this issue of the schism within Orthodoxy and the effect on the Ukrainian-Russian war. I have my own opinions as to why Bannon, Posobiec, etc. never talk about the persecution of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine, but I digress…
The only thing the Greeks and many others understand (I’m cradle GO, but attend an Antiochian parish) is MONEY. Somehow, people have to wake up to what Bart and his boys have done to Orthodoxy on a global scale, and stop. giving. money. Target just lost $9B in value in one day. At least here in the US, the GOA and every other church jurisdiction that supports Bartholomew needs to be defunded just like Budweiser, Target, NorthFace, etc. Bring the heat to the Archons, the Phanariotes, and the Fordhamites. It’s the only thing they understand.

  7. Looks like Erdogan has won his reelection,

I’m sure things are going to get very interesting for the patriarchate.

Orthodox Times predictably already has an article on Patriarch Kirill’s congratulating Erdogan:

    https://orthodoxtimes.com/patriarch-of-moscow-sent-congratulation-letter-to-turkish-president-erdogan/

Given who Orthodox Times gets their funding from I think it’s safe to assume that Bart isn’t as excited about Erdogan’s election.
Guess we’ll soon have an idea why Bart is so afraid of the Turkish government. It’s a bad time to be a Western asset and acquaintance of Gulen in the Fanar
