Holy Unction Service for His Eminence Archbishop. +Dmitri, August 23, 2011

Last night, St Seraphim Cathedral in Dallas was filled with people from all over the Diocese of the South to pray for His Eminence +Dmitri.

Thank you to Vladimir Grigorenko for the pictures.

This was actually the second service in as many nights for His Eminence. The one last night was planned, however, the day before, he had slipped into consciousness and many feared that he was breathing his last so an emergency annointing was performed. After it was over, he revived. His Beatitude +Jonah gave the assembled clergy his blessing to go ahead with the scheduled service for last night. Several from our parish drove to Dallas to be there and we arrived a couple of hours before the so we had a chance to meet with him in his residence. Despite being bedridden, he maintained his characteristic good humor and we talked about old times.

The service was moving and the love for this true servant of Christ was palpable. The turmoil that had engulfed the Cathedral in the recent past had dissipated. All we could think about was this true Evangelist and his legacy. I pray the Lord grants him more time but I am confident that when He calls the Archbishop home, He will say: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
