Let us raise lift up our country in prayer on this day. Even though there are a few who have done everything in their power to destroy her, America is still the greatest nation on earth and on that, at least, we can still agree.

The Fourth of July is about militancy. Declaring ones independence is not the same as achieving it, declaration is simply a bold first step. One undertakes treason on one date to enable liberation at a later one.
And so I watch military movies on the 4th. This year, I watched the Biography episode on Patton, a remarkable American. In past years I have often watched Coppola’s movie Patton. Being a monarchist at heart, I’m not into the 1776 stuff as much as the fighting spirit, “the bombs bursting in air”.
And so the above piece gets it right in the diagnosis yet wrong in the prescription. The author recognizes that this liberal war on domestic terrorism is simply a war on the MAGA right using the weapons of the post 9/11 surveillance state. His prescription is to dismantle the entire apparatus (“do the right thing”) when we regain power instead of use the apparatus to destroy the Left.
This is wrongheaded for several reasons. First, rewinding the clock will only get you right back to the same place again. Allowing the Left another bite at the apple after the Right regains power will only teach them to how to permanently hold power the next opportunity they have. They will certainly not shrink from imposing as much of a police state as they can manage.
Second, Islam is still a clear and present threat. The apparatus constructed by the Patriot Act, et al, was aimed at al-Qaida and its progeny. So long as there are over a billion Muslims poisoned with Islamic supercessionism, you will need a solid security apparatus.
Third, one party dominance is not incompatible with our Constitutional republic. The system is called Dominant Party politics and it was practiced in Japan for much of the post WWII period:

Originally, the Constitution specified that the candidate with the largest number of electors would be president but the one with the second largest number would be vice-president (Article II, Sec. 1). Such a provision is not conducive to a two party system but rather a system without political parties or a system of one party dominance in which the election is tantamount to what we think of as a party primary. This had to be changed later (by the twelfth amendment) to enable the current two party framework but it is interesting to note that originally the two party system was not assumed by the Founders.
The habit of thinking in a Two-Party framework is precisely the habit we need to break. We must retire the Democratic Party in disgrace and render it uncompetitive on the national stage and resolve to govern as a one party system, achieving that and maintaining it by any means necessary. The era of two party power sharing is over. The Democrats are doing everything they can manage politically to ensure that they become the dominant party. Never bring a knife to a gun fight. Unilateral disarmament has always been a terrible idea.
