Happy Fourth!

Even if we don’t really have a Constitutional Republic anymore, we can at least wax nostalgic about what once was.

I have a feeling that, looking into this this little girl’s eyes that there will be hell to pay for all our sins.

Lord have mercy.

In the meantime, Your’s Truly will be en famille, enjoying a great BBQ at my dad’s today. Fireworks tonight –the whole shebang. I hope your’s is as enjoyable!

Here’s today’s readings from the Apostles. St Paul is teaching:

    Romans 8:14-21
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by Whom we cry out: ‘Abba! Father!’

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed in us, 19 for the earnest expectation of creation eagerly awaits the revealing of the children of God.

20 For creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope, 21 because creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

And until that blessed day, God bless America!.

Here’s a link to a video of Archbishop Benjamin preaching yesterday at Fort Ross, relevant to discussions of the Supreme Court’s decision about same-sex marriage:

    • Well all it takes is a little twisting of the Gospel and you get what he said. . . . Mostly true, but ultimately off. No one here or anywhere else feels they are “better than others”. That is not at all what is at the heart of this country’s discussion and to make it into that is a few things . . . but ultimately is hurting the Church and hurting those who need the Church, which is everyone.

No surprise coming from him. . . sorry to say. . . .

Archbishop Benjamin Peterson briefly alluded to gay marriage at the beginning of the video, then avoided the issue. He spent most of the time preaching about not judging others. I count two strikes against for him. First, his dowoca.org message warns that cohabitation is a bigger threat to Holy Matrimony than gay marriage, cheap misdirection to avoid the real issue. Secondly, his video sermon basically says “don’t judge” as his response to the gay marriage debacle. I hereby nominate Archbishop Benjamin for the July 2015 GLAAD Tolerance Award.

        You nailed it, Thomas.

I suppose nothing will influence your closed, hateful mind. One the one side are a small number of homosexuals and on the other a vast army of heteros. Assuming that half of both groups engage in sexual sins, which group sins more? Which group is a bigger threat to Holy Matrimony? Are you driven blind to what is going on because you hate a particular sin more than others? Do you think that adultery, cohabitation, using pornography are of no consequence? Do you have a personal issue here–a need to downgrade other sins by elevating one that is particular to just 3% of the population? BTW, just who do you think you are to judge the pastoral concerns of a bishop?

      • Yeah that is exactly it Thomas. . “his video sermon basically says “don’t judge” as his response to the gay marriage debacle “.

        • Without knowing the content of Abp. Benjamin’s email inbox, no one is in a position to say what the biggest pastoral problem was that he felt he was facing with his own flock that week. Bishops are the ones with the charism to teach and preach. There is no evidence that +Benjamin is joining Arida in implying he wants to rethink traditional ideas of family and marriage. If you have such evidence, this is the wrong forum to express such serious concerns.
