If Bishop Mark isn’t the right man for the Diocese of the South, then an “open” process would make that clear. The problem is that the DOs chose a closed process — one essentially controled by the deans — with the only change that the deans are not united behind “their” man. (The episcopal selection process as posted at dosoca.org is riddled with holes that allow for all kinds of monkeying around: 1 candidate or 3? “They” choose who is “viable” or not. Resumes, etc. etc., all before actually meeting anyone.t)
This is not totally different from how then-Bishop Jonah was chosen as an auxilary and heir apparent bishop in teh DOS.
Would Fr Justin, or any of the other critics of Bishop Mark, be as viscerally opposed to a candidate he likes but was still being foisted on the diocese using this closed selection process? (And if a process that still hasn’t released all the cndidates’ names only 2-3 months before the dicoesan assembly isn’t “closed,” what is?)

The fact that the retired Bishop of the Internet is now anparticipant here, with acolades aplenty, sums up the situation for both the site and the hierarch. The same bishop who neglected his diocese and insulted his own clergy for years now presumes to spread his special brand of misery far and wide, with the help of George, Rod, and Jesse. I’m waiting for Nikolai Soraich and Bob Kondratick to show up any moment, to make the joy complete.
I guess the motto is “Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.”

In what sense did Archbishop Peter exercise actual episcopal oversight, direction, and leadership?

Not really. This is not some kind of out-of-state corporation chartered by the state’s Secretary of State. The OCA’s legal entity is chartered by the NY state legislature, in an official act of that legislature. In section 12 of the charter, it says The principal office of the corporation is to be located in the city, county, and state of New York. (As it is, we’re already not in the city and county of New York, but the state has commonly allowed this to mean the extended NYC area, including Long Island.) “Principal office” is not the same as the office of the registered agent. It’s where actual exeutive business is conducted and where corporate records are maintained. (Just search the web to see.)

So what to do about the OCA’s charter from the NY legislature? Legally, we can’t move out of the state unless that’s resolved.

NY-NJ’s problem is a declining census. Their financial impoverishment is just proof of that. They’ve not had a bishop for 30 years or so. And, there’s some $80,000 missing, and no one can be bothered to look for it. Ergo, the natural solution is to impoverish Syosset.

Yes, because real monks need more than simple accommodations. It takes room to store really long prayer ropes, big candles, and piles of icons. Serious monastics are also not used to living adjacent to a chapel, reception area, refectory, and primary work area.

Maybe someone can dig up the FOS number for 1994-2004. I think it was in steady decline under Fester’s leadership, such that after Fr Eugene Vansuch reposed, they treated it as if it had died with him.

Is there a chapter on there about dissembling regarding the disclosure of the Church’s legal strategy to the opposing party?

I don’t think your a raving conspiracy theorist. I think you are a tool, if not an accomplice, of Kondratik, Fester, and their allies. Either that, or your a stoner on a bad trip.
Who am I? Who are YOU? Maybe I am this guy. If I am, at least I am not throwing around obnoxious theories and libelous accusations. If you are a true philosopher, admit that these theories make as much sense as the universe revolving around the earth.

George, this is just bullsh*t. Anon sounds suspiciosly like Joe Fester. You accept this conspiracy theory of some anonymous-to-us-but-not-you (but posibly fronts for Dreher and Coen) posters, even though it means Bishop Melchisedek has magical jedi powers to control the Holy Synod. I expect polyjuice potion will be suggested as a possible method soon. That, or maybe Mystique. Gads.
Why don’t one of you guys call Bishop Melchisedek and ask him? Theres a phone no at http://ocadwpa.org/contact.html, or maybe try Syosset.
I think Bishop George of ROCOR is of the great schema, too.

You said “Why is it that ROCOR obtained the release of these nuns from their bishop in Greece in such short order and yet Stokoe presents it as a major impediment as to their reception into the OCA?” not me.
Maybe ROCOR didn’t get them released? Or maybe ROCOR doesn’t care.
ROCOR has had its share of jurisdiction-hopping monks. Some have worked out better than others.

How do you know ROCOR obtained a release fro these nuns?
Of course, ROCOR had great success with accepting other OCA monastic rejects. Jut look at Christ of the Hills Monastery in Blanco, TX. You can get the details at Pokrov.
I also heard romfea was connected to the abbot in Greece. That would explain much.

Yep, Harry. Isaiah and Demetrios both fought the defrocking of Katinis, the child molester priest in Dallas. Bart had to do it himself.
