Love It or List It

I found this book at the library and checked it out; reading it now.

There’s really only one place where polyandry is practiced, and it has to do with keeping land in the family. Found mostly in Tibet.

And you’re right, there’s no explicit ban. But the rabbis during the 14th-15th century made it more difficult to practice, at least in Europe. They basically decreed that a man who wanted to have more than one wife had to get permission from 99 rabbis. Good luck with that . . .

The Sephardi Jews, in the Middle East before most emigrated to Israel, were able to practice polygamy more openly.

Are you saying that polygamy is starting to be practiced by some Jewish settlers? Where did you hear that?

» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On August 28, 2012 @ 10:37 am

Yep. I’ve heard of this observation. I can’t help with the reference, sorry; I never bookmarked it.

What I’m talking about is now – secularists aren’t going to turn to St. John of Damascus as a source.

That was what Met. Jonah was doing, until . . . well, you know what.

And rather, some people think that Islam is really a Christian heresy. Some scholars have come to this conclusion with evidence that seems plausible.

The other Proteatant groups in England wanted to make the Church even less liturgical, since they perceived what was left in Anglicanism as being still too Catholic.

I’ve read that they spent $18 million dollars, yes, you read that correctly, suing parishes leaving ECUSA for more conservative Eipiscopal jurisdictions and are now stuck with near-empty buildings that cost a good penny to maintain.

Here’s the article: http://www.beliefnet.com/Faiths/Home-Page-News-and-Views/Why-is-the-Episcopal-church-near-collapse.aspx

New Orthodox App

Oh, wow . . . thanks! Been looking for an app for the iPad. Hopefully Prayer Rope will become available for the iPhone as well.

You Didn’t Build That!

“b-quote” = blockquote. It’s abbreviated obviously, which is why Fr. Hans described it as such.

I read your explanation elsewhere – thanks for the explanation.

I do need to point out that I don’t know Greek, in any version. And I can’t always break down “worship” mentally into the different shades of the Greek definition. How do you explain “worship” in laymen terms, using the Greek definitions, to English speakers who are monolingual (I’m not monolingual, by the way), have not had classic education, have no knowledge of the Orthodox Church and used to “only worshipping God”?

I apologize for my tone towards you.

» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On August 19, 2012 @ 5:21 am

Do you know the difference between “worship” and “venerate”? There really is a difference and I suggest that you talk with your priest about this.

I have to say I lost respect for Shirley MacLaine the moment I learned that she believed that we didn’t have to take responsibility for our actions due to reincarnation. This also marked my turn away from New Agey stuff. I also lost respect for Oprah once I saw that she was going down the New Agey path.

Take this for whatever its worth.

Anarcho-capitalists???

Thank you for the transcript!

I didn’t know +Jonah was scheduled to be the speaker, nor that OCL was going to take place here . . .

Can anyone provide a transcript? The captions generated by the “CC” button aren’t that good.

Let Us Pray

I was thinking about this earlier today, and the only conclusion I can come up with was that some of these churches were open only for special feast days; the other churches were in regular use. Another possibility could be that a wealthy family would have had one of these churches built as a sign of their faith.

I hope this is received loud and clear by those involved.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn: Live Not by Lies

If you’re on Facebook, he’s there.

I agree, such a site is needed, and yes, it take deep pockets to fund this. We need more investigative reporting based on solid facts than not. The truth shall set you free, so the saying goes.

I know Deacon Brian Patrick Mitchell as he used to be at my parish. He may be a bit abrasive, but I do trust what he has to say; he’s not one to talk without getting his facts straight. Additionally, if you go over to amazon.com and look for his name, you’ll find that he has written a book political systems in America.

More Evidence that Jonah Was Railroaded

Please look at http://eadiocese.org/News/2012/aug/Abbessdirective.pdf

Who is the elder that Metropolitan Hilarion named in this directive?

» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On August 16, 2012 @ 9:14 am

Agreed.

Why do I feel like I’m in the middle of Rashomon?

And just to clarify, you’re NOT saying that Goddaughter and J are the same person?

» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On August 14, 2012 @ 6:12 pm

Fr. X is the priest-monk that was named in the SMPAC report. I don’t know if it is still okay to use his full name; probably not – George Michalopoulos? J is the neighbor in the apartment where Fr. X made inappropriate approaches towards. J is also apparently, according to George P, the fiancée who with her fiancé asked Fr. X to marry them.

There is no grandmother, but rather, the godmother of the goddaughter (who is married and lives in another part of the country) who said that Fr. X had raped her, but gave the details only to +Jonah.

We’re talking about TWO DIFFERENT women with whom Fr. X apparently behaved inappropriately.

Oops . . . the correct URL should be: http://eadiocese.org/News/2012/aug/7.113.12.en.htm

Not my website, but rather, ROCOR. Thanks for pointing this out to me.

» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On August 14, 2012 @ 2:51 pm

There’s been a statement by ROCOR that might shed some light on this:

Here is the statement from the monastery:

I have to admit I’m just bewildered by this – I’m scratching my head as I try to figure it out.

This message was sent out yesterday, so I’m assuming it is dated yesterday, according to my email program.
