Except that he probably doesn’t want to go back to a monastery under a group of people who pushed him out of his position. Who is to say that they won’t do it again to him – push him out from THAT monastery onto the streets?

Yes, I have heard from him, in presence of others as well, that he has requested that the Holy Synod release him from OCA. I’m still waiting for them to make up their mind about the release request.

Okay . . . that tidbit about Cinque becoming a slaveowner in Africa is news to me. Kinda not surprised by that. Hope he wasn’t responsible for at least one of my ancestors becoming enslaved.

Carl, this is one of the situation where the answer is either “yes” or “no”; or, “1″ or “0″; or, “true” or “false”. Either a bishop is active or retired; there is no in-between. The only condition that negates these status is “deceased”.
Yes, Carl, do please ask the Synod exactly what is going on. Lot of us would love to know the answer.

I don’t know of any medical services included at FOCUS. Why don’t you get in touch with them?
» Posted By Lola J. Lee Beno On January 2, 2013 @ 8:26 pm
There is an Orthodox group doing basically the same thing – FOCUS. They’re doing a lot of wonderful work, including reaching out to the surrounding community.
I also belong to a Facebook group, Black Orthodox Christian and this comes up from time to time. There is a feeling that it’s time to actually do something than rather than talking about it. What, I don’t know yet. But there are a couple people in the group who are not Orthodox yet but seriously seeking. I’m not going to name names, but I’ll just say that there are people, were they to become Orthodox, would really be a great asset.

Because people didn’t want community homes in their neighborhood – heaven forbid that these folks with mental problems would be around their children. And the property value, of course . . .

Umm, no. Why would anyone want to live out one’s life in a monastery that is directly under bishop(s) that treated one badly? One would have to be a sadist to to accept such honor.

All that would do would be to hide Met. Jonah in a place where he wouldn’t have regular touch with fellow Americans who love him.

Would you happen to know where one can get the Russian version?
And once again, the replies are not being threaded under the original replies that one is responding to . . . George???

That is a very, very good question you’re asking, Father. I honestly don’t know.
And by the way, the replies are no longer showing up right below the posts to which one is replying, in my case, my reply to Fr. John Morris about why does Stokoe have so much “influence” in OCA. What’s up with that?

I would like to report briefly – I was there at the service tonight. Met. Jonah was indeed there, and there was a good number of people singing in the choir. Quite a turnout of people who were able to come tonight. I believe there were about 8 or 9 priests present.
After the service, one of the priests gave an eulogy, and then Met. Jonah thanked everyone for coming and spoke lovingly of his sister. He gave each of us his blessing as we went up to kiss Laurie goodbye.
I will strive to be there tomorrow morning if my foot lets me.

Very good question. I just can’t imagine that they would not let him attend. Nobody that I’ve been in touch with has indicated otherwise, so I imagine he will be there for the services.

Extra! Syosset Reports of Deal Struck with Met. Jonah Not True
I agree about teleconferencing. I’m running a small business with two partners, one who is on the other side of US and other who is about 4-5 hours north of us. We Skype on a regular basis, but we learned quickly that we really do need to meet in person once in a while to push stuff along.

Obama is a genuine American? Ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha ha! Please don’t make me laugh, seriously.
Tell me again . . . did he grow up having spent time in a Boy Scout troop, marching in a 4th of July parade, going on school field trips to important American historical sites? He spent most of his formative years outside of the United States and on the perimeters of the country, and it shows, abundantly, in his outlook.

The Republican Party is going to need to change. They can’t ignore the fact that the demographics have changed, and that there are people like me, black conservatives, who are here to stay and we’re not going anywhere despite being tagged as house negros, Uncle Toms, and whatnot. They need to stand up and have our back, rather than running away to hide under the sofa when we’re being attacked by the so-called progressive Democrats (who are really Leftists) for not toeing the line that they’ve set up, that all blacks should be loyal to the Democrat party that has not done one darned thing to reduce the level of property, promote self-sufficiency, improve the quality of inner-city schools by making it easier to fire incompetent teachers, to name just a few.
The Republican Party also needs to stop being Democrat-Lite. Why vote for a moderate or liberal Republican when one can easily vote Democrat? They also need to grow a S-P-I-N-E. If they can’t, there will be a new party that is truly, clearly the opposite of the Democrat Party with no equivocations.

It has come to my attention that Met. Jonah’s sister is very gravely ill and in intensive care at the hospital. She was chrismated yesterday, her patron saint is St. Laura of Spain. Pray for her!
